Sister Story - Lauren

Name: Lauren

Age: 26

About: Before leaving to come away I was working a 9-5 job Monday to Friday, I felt like I was stuck in a rut while everyone around me was moving on/having the best time of their lives. I still remember the day my friend Ellie and I were sitting in a pub back home and I said “I really want to go travelling”, her reply “me too, I will come with you” and that was it, the planning went ahead. That has got to be one of the best conversations I have ever had! So for a year I saved like crazy, quit my job and now here I am, on the other side of the world, sat outside drinking in the sunshine!

Why did you decide to travel? I wanted to see more of the world and experience different lifestyles and cultures while I have the opportunity to take a break from life.

Where do you come from? Chippenham, England

Where do you want to go next? Canada, New York and Italy

What is your number one tip for travelling? To make the most of every day and appreciate your new surroundings. Also to embrace your natural beauty!

What has been your biggest challenge to overcome? Not being able to touch the smelly soggy tea towels in the hostel kitchens!

What do you miss about home? I miss my friends and family but with free wifi available in so many places, I can still talk to them whenever I need to. I really miss wearing perfume, my pillow and real dairy milk chocolate!

What have you learned about yourself? That I don't have to wear make-up every day and that I can live without my hair straighteners - something I thought I would never say!

Favourite Quote? Onwards and upwards

Favourite new thing? (i.e. food you have tried, skill, tradition, place) Realising that there really is a big wide world out there and enjoying every moment while meeting lots of new amazing people along the way.

What advise would you give to other girls wanting to travel? To go for it! I was never sure if I would actually end up going but I am so glad I did. You meet so many fellow people all with different stories and backgrounds. Before coming away I didn't realise just how many people are here travelling alone - it seems to be the done thing. You wont regret it!
